What you can do about VOIP Blocking |
|
Because of the fact that web traffic must be allowed to pass for reasons ranging from news to banking and entertainment VOIP blocking can never be complete. There are several ways to make it work even when the ISP or government tries VOIP blocking. Some methods work better than others. The preferred method is to use a virtual private network (VPN). This approach has several benefits. First, it creates a tunnel of encrypted data that nobody can read. Your VOIP call travels through this tunnel and cannot be recognized by the VOIP blocking software. Second, by encrypting your data your local service provider cannot read or listen to any of your data. So in addition to making your VOIP solution work you also keep prying eyes away from your calls and other data. Until recently VPN solutions only worked easily for soft phones. Plugging in a regular IP phone into your computer and trying to route traffic was a job for a professional. However now a new and inexpensive device has been introduced that solves this problem. The device is a wireless router that has been custom configured to automatically log into a VPN network. Everything plugged into the router or connected through it's wireless option is passed through the VPN. Unblocking your stand alone IP phone is now as easy as plugging in the router, connecting it to your DSL or Cable Modem and plugging your phone into the back of the device. Our recommended solution, that has been tested and works with all VOIP applications is Surf Bouncer (www.surfbouncer.com). This software has been tested worldwide and provides security and the ability to stop VOIP blocking and allow your calls through.
